Representative Peter Roskam (R-IL) released the following statement on the appointment of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court:

"The responsibility of the Supreme Court of the United States to interpret the laws that govern every American is a substantial one and the appointment of Justices who have an understanding of the Constitution and a commitment to uphold the laws contained therein are a vital component of our legal system. Judge Brett Kavanaugh is an exemplary and highly-qualified nominee to succeed Justice Kennedy on the Supreme Court. As Judge Kavanaugh once wrote, "The judge's job is to interpret the law, not to make the law or make policy," and I believe that is the type of jurist Americans want on the Supreme Court. The appointment of Judge Kavanaugh is an excellent choice and I urge my Senate colleagues to confirm him."
